    Hi everyone

First of all, apologies for posting in english. I don't speak german and AVM is not that widespread outside of Germany to find a dedicated forum elsewhere... I hope one or some of you can still help.

My set up: I have two Fritz!Box 7340 devices - one is providing DSL access, serving the IP addresses to my computer network and is one wireless access point. The other Fritz!Box is just sharing the internet or, if you prefer, it is working as a wireless bridge, therefore it is not giving any IP addresses, just extending the wireless network.

The problem: The wireless bridge will crash from time to time. Computers that get connect to the network through it loose connectivity and the only solution is to unplug and replug the power. This has been happening at least once per day. Unfortunately the event logs get cleared when the router is powered off...

I'm not really sure which other details would you need, but I'll be happy to tell if needed.

    Any ideas out there?

    Many thanks.

    Hallo,

    welcome in the forum.

You should change the Wireless Channel. Perhaps an other WLAN in your neighbourhood interfere your WLAN. Have you many WLAN in your neighbourhood?
    Try the channel 2,6,11.
Optimize the Location from the router.

    Greetz Frank

    Sorry for my english.

    Hi

Thanks for the answer. I can certainly try that. But the Fritz!Box is supposedly able to measure interference from other routers and chooses the best channel automatically... In any case, I'm now using no. 1 and I'll try another.

Unfortunately I cannot place the router elsewhere since it is attached to a cable that I cannot remove.

I'll keep you updated to let you know if changing the channel helped.

    Thanks again.

    Hallo,

how many other WLAN are in your neighbourhood?

You can take a longer cable, to change the location from the router.

    Hi

The Fritz!Box does not see any other 2,4Ghz WLAN networks in the neighborhood.

I'm trying to avoid changing the router, but if necessary, I guess it'll have to go that way...

By the way, the other Fritz!Box sees other WLANs but does not crash...

Let's see what happens with a different channel selection in the wireless bridge.

    Greetings

    Hallo,

change the channel in all routers and take the same channel.

Is the first AVM the base and the other AVM the repeater or both routers are connected together with cable?

    Greetings Frank

    Hallo!

They're not within the wireless reach of each other, so both routers are connected via a cable.

They were previously both using channel 1 but only the wireless bridge/AP would crash... Still worth using the same channel for both?

    Greetings

    Hallo,

now i understand your problem better. The channelchange is not necessary.
We have here an How to do. You should translate it with the google translater.
The cableconnection between the routers are over the LAN-Ports. In the second AVM you must disable DHCP. Here the Howtodo. -KLICK-

    Hi Frank

I checked the tutorial and I basically have it set up that way. In fact, this Fritz!Box 7340 has an option to get internet by automatically configuring sharing with another router. This is, in essence, an option to configure it for you as a Bridge/Access Point.

If I check my computer's connection details, it is getting the same IP it had when connected directly to the main router and the gateway corresponds to the main router address (different from the second router). In addition, the second router has the DHCP configuration page disabled. I'm pretty sure the router to router connection is correctly configured.

I have now been using the alternative WLAN channel and so far no problem. I also enabled an option to "Optimize WLAN transmission for IPTV applications". I have a feeling that one possible cause for the second router crash is when a large download is happening (for example, streaming a big video), so this option may be of help.

It is a bit difficult to reproduce the crash. I'll see how this configuration holds up and then I'll get back here to report.

Thanks for your time so far!
